BRANDS HATCH ENDS SEASON
WITH A BANG
Bumper crowds at Brands Hatch for the final rounds of the British Truck Racing Association Championship races proved without a shadow of doubt that Truck Racing is still alive and kicking in good old blighty. A full grid of Race Trucks, including entries from Germany and Holland made the 5 truck races per weekend, reverse grid format a true public pleaser with fast & furious close racing throughout, on this tight Kent circuit. Matt Summerfield claimed the overall Championship for another year, but not without Dave Jenkins putting in some strong performances towards the end to make it a close run thing. Steve Thomas claimed 3rd overall after his strongest season so far. Dave Smith won division 2 by again showing when he was out, he was hard to beat, but consistent Brian Burt took him right down to the wire and if he hadn't had a nudge sending him on a trip into the barriers on Sun morning putting him out for the day, things could have been very different!!
Over 100 of our finest Show Trucks came to support the weekend, entering the now very popular Truck Show that runs inside the BTRA race events. From small beginnings Steve Horne has now developed the show side into an integral part of the family friendly weekends. With Working, Custom, Fleet and Restored Truck classes, there is somewhere for your truck to fit in if you wanted to attend. This time Owen Nutt again amassed enough points to take an overall win in the Best Working Truck class with his gold 2006 Volvo. With prizes given out down to 11th place this proved to be the most popular class of the weekend. The Best Custom Truck went to Ian Lewton and his Scania. The Best Fleet award went up to the Black Country with the two immaculate Scanias of Alwins Ltd and the Restored category was won by the Bedford of local company Staplehurst Transits.
Brand Hatch themselves helped to improve the day by adding into the mix once again. Monster Truck Rides, Diggerland display, Fun Fair, Childrens Circus and much much more were set out. The grand finale was the absolutely mind blowing firework display that ended the weekend. The crowd stood rock solid still in anticipation of the start, while the sun went down. With the Showtrucks on track orchestrating their own moving Light Shows, thus making it a truly a unique awesome sight to see! Only here can this be created!
With the normal excellent facilities and excellent variety of food at this venue it all worked well to make a truly unique affordable family weekend of entertainment.
The 2014 season starts back at Brands Hatch on Apr 12th & 13th so if you want to bring your truck for the weekend to get inside the meeting contact Steve Horne on E.Mail - firstname.lastname@example.org
Truck Shows will also be held at BTRA events at Thruxton 14th & 15th June / Donington Park 24th & 25th Aug / Snetterton 13th & 14th Sept and Brands Hatch again 1st & 2nd Nov.
