WEEK ELEVEN

Monday, 27th January

First thing Monday we load the engine complete with crate on top of the chassis rails to try and figure out the optimum engine position for the axle weight split front and rear, on the weigh pads. We also hang the side guards on to see for the first time if she’s going to look like a proper race truck, when we’ve finished, low, pretty chic, and very, very fast!!

The calculations are done once again with the front pulley of the engine directly above the track rod. The cab then comes back off and work resumes on the chassis, then its the chassis underframe to figure out !! For next week.

Meanwhile the 5 new air and water tanks have arrived from Italy and look good. Ben showed me the invoice for them and I fell off of my chair. The intercooler and radiator are back from Sercks recored to my special specification with unpainted core for added cooling. The intercooler is a Horney special, as is 2 x ERF 14 litre coolers grafted together, so twice the volume of a standard road motor, plus some water spray should make optimum cooling. Only trouble is Serck’s could only test it to one bar. As I intend to create 5 bar boost pressure, we will test it properly at the first meeting, and hope for the best !!

The cost of Serck’s work was reduced by 30% in return for carrying their sticker, so the 2nd bit of sponsorship, be it only small, but it all helps.
